HONEST REVIEW
1. Surgical Hands-On (The “Quality over Quantity” Approach)
- Case Volume: You can expect to perform approximately 25 cases in 14 days. This is an excellent density for a short-term program, averaging nearly 2 cases per day.
- Supervision & Mentorship: The faculty is noted for being highly supportive. Even if a trainee gets stuck during a specific step (e.g., rhexis or trenching), the mentors allow the trainee to complete the majority of the case rather than taking over immediately.
- Case Selection: Trainees are involved in the pre-operative screening early in the morning, allowing them to select cases that match their current skill level (e.g., Grade II vs. Grade IV nuclei).
2. The Feedback Loop
- Post-Op Review: A key feature of the ICARE module is the mandatory post-operative check. You are called specifically to examine your own patients from the previous day to monitor outcomes and wound integrity.
- Daily Debrief: Trainees often sit with the surgical trainer after OT hours to review surgical videos or discuss steps that were challenging, providing a dedicated space for “course correction.”
3. Work Culture
- Environment: Professional, academic, and non-toxic. The focus is entirely on surgical transition and refinement.
- Schedule: Morning OPD screening → Midday/Afternoon OT → Evening Post-op review and discussion.
PERSONAL OPINION
ICARE Noida is the “Surgical Polish” destination for North India. It is not designed to teach Phaco from scratch in 14 days, but it is one of the best places to overcome a plateau. If you are already doing Phaco but struggle with complications or specific nucleus grades, the 2-week intense feedback loop here is invaluable. The ability to select your own cases and review your own post-ops mimics a “real-world” consultant experience.
